Rough start for Akil Campbell at Cycling World Champs

NATIONAL endurance cyclist Akil Campbell did not complete the men’s scratch race at the 2023 International Cycling Union World Championships in Scotland, on Thursday.

Campbell was among seven cyclists who did not complete the race.

The event was won by William Tidball of Great Britain. Kazushige Kuboki of Japan ended second and Tuur Dens of Belgium grabbed third spot.

Campbell will now look forward to the men’s omnium on Sunday.

Campbell’s sister Teniel will also compete at the championships. Teniel is coming off her debut at the Tour de France women's edition - Le Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift. She was 99th overall.

Teniel, who will compete in the road race at the championships on August 13, became the first cyclist from TT to compete at the prestigious event in France.

Nicholas Paul and Kwesi Browne will also compete at the championships. Paul and Browne will line up in the men’s sprint qualification on Saturday and then compete in the keirin on Tuesday.
