Calypso Girls crushed 89-26 by Jamaica at Netball World Cup

THE Calypso Girls fell to a massive 89-26 defeat to Jamaica in the 2023 Netball World Cup at the Cape Town International Convention Centre Arena I in South Africa on Wednesday.

TT are at the bottom of the standings in Group G. Turnovers were the difference in the match as TT gave away the ball 53 times compared to 23 by the Jamaicans. The Sunshine Girls of Jamaica were also more accurate converting 88 per cent of their shots and TT completed 79 per cent. In the penalty column, TT had 69 and Jamaica 45. Jamaica opened up a massive 20-6 lead after the first quarter, before outscoring the Calypso Girls 24-4 to take a 44-10 at half-time.

TT scored more goals in the second half, but Jamaica stayed in control of the contest as the Sunshine Girls were 69-19 in front after three quarters. Jamaica added 20 more goals in the final quarter compared to seven by TT.

TT lost 69-28 to South Africa on Monday. The Calypso Girls have no chance of making it to the semi-finals. TT will aim to bounce back against Wales at 3 am on Thursday (TT time) and following that match TT will play for rankings.
