Walk with your barrow, candidates

THE EDITOR: This is an open challenge to every single candidate vying for election in the upcoming local government polls.

I am calling on you, whether you be red, blue, yellow, white or any shade on the rainbow, to walk with your wheelbarrow, shovel and bucket. This should be safer than illegally promising any grant or government service.

Anyone wishing to represent the people must show before hand how they can work. I am daring them to identify potholes, watercourses, illegal dumps, burnt homes and children who need books, so that when they announce their presence on the street it will be by the sound of a hole being patched or a bin being installed. It could be as simple as accompanying the open-tray truck and assisting to collect and discard derelict vehicles and assorted debris.

For instance, Safraz Ali, former UNC activist now overnight PDP candidate, who is suffering a "lone ranger" campaign, can walk with a crew and repair the major holes on Don Miguel Road in San Juan. Fiaq Mohammed can actually pave the roads in Orchard Gardens South. And J Lynn Roopnarine can also fix the massive potholes at the corner of McInroy and Bellesmythe Streets in Curepe. Complimentary paint should be given to residents of Woodbrook by any candidate vying for position.

Not to be outdone, Diego Martin residents should see NTA candidates giving out shovels to cater for floods. Please walk with two-litre soft drinks and snacks for the children and disposable diapers for incontinent adults. These things are in need anywhere you go in the country.

Among your supporters should be a hardware dealers, so if you go to a home and their roof or toilet is leaking, you can apply a $10 pack of Plumbers Mate or some glue. Think how the taxi drivers will vote for you if you can repaint their taxi stand or install a dusk-to-dawn light free of charge.

The PNM candidate for Aranguez/Warner Road will surely win the election over Amrit Roopnarine if he or she can resurface and restore law and order to Boundary Road.

I am sure Jack Warner will be gushing support (know what I mean) and people are going to leave all parts of the country to get his political alms.

After all, its all about the people. So lets see who is man enough.
