Trinidad and Tobagoo fall to JA at Caribbean Volleyball Championship

Trinidad and Tobago senior women`s volleyball team suffered a surprised 3-2 defeat to Jamaica in their last round-robin match of the 18th Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championships at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall in Suriname on Wednesday.

The Jamaicans were off to a great start winning the first couple of sets 25:14 and 25:23. But, the Calypso Spikers woke up and they extended the match by pulling back the next two sets at 25:22, 25:15. In the fifth set, TT were down 5:2 but battled their way back to eventually lead 13:12 and inch closer to victory. However, the Jamaicans crawled their way back to sneak a 16:14 victory.

TT women will play the semi-final on Friday and hopefully the final on Sunday at the same venue. In their previous matches, TT played undefeated. They defeated Barbados 3-1 (25:23, 25:23,20:25, 25:19), Suriname 3-0 (25:14, 25:11, 25:19) and narrowly edged Bahamas 3-2 (17:25, 25:19, 25:17, 21:25, 15:12).

The TT men`s team opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Jamaica on Sunday. The twin-island team ran away with a two-set lead winning 25:17, 25:23 before the Jamaicans pulled a set back at 25:23. To avoid the match going into a fifth set, TT held on to a 28-26 victory in the fourth set.

In the next match, TT went under to Bahamas 3-2 after having a convincing 2-1 lead. (25:18, 22:25, 25:19, 18:25, 11:15).
