Those pulling the political strings

THE EDITOR: Jack returns to the UNC! This is somehow supposed to inspire some confidence in a party that continues to ignore the sad realities of this country and hopes to somehow attract the necessary votes to return to power?

I have waited for the established intellects to examine and present the real and true nature of the politics we are cultivating here, and determine how healthy is it for our nation. The real question is, who benefits from this type of politics?

Both the UNC and the PNM are mostly saddled with half wits and shady characters who cannot truly explain their rise to positions. In fact, call a name and you could link it to some forms of inappropriate behaviour, yet they sit comfortably in our faces telling us they can be the ones who will work in our interest.

Again the question arises who do these people really work for and who benefits?

If anyone out there suggests that Kamla and Keith are in charge of the two political dinosaurs, sorry, dynasties that currently exist, then they are yet to face a harsh truth about our political culture.

Both parties have been infiltrated by powerful financiers whose sole interest is to ensure they benefit from whoever is in charge. Call them what you want, the one per cent; the contractors; the bourgeoisie, they have invested heavily in both parties and expect profitable returns.

The people are nothing more than a means to an end to facilitate their agenda. Politicians are nothing more than the instruments to achieve this agenda. When you look at the transactional behaviour of our leaders, it is clear that the powerful financiers are pulling their strings, not allowing any one party to upstage the other.

The current mess the PNM has this country in is not a their sole doing but a conscious calculated effort by those who have infected all our institutions, from government to judiciary, protective, legal, infrastructural and the list goes on.

I have always maintained, a country so rich in resources should never be experiencing this level of hardship! Comparable to other nations with less, we are downright failing our children.

Once this is allowed to continue we can only expect much of the same and little of nothing. Those bastions designed to protect the people have been so broken that the fourth wall now only exists as a weather-beaten curtain blowing to the whims and fancies of the rich.

For those who understand, and can stand up and ask the right questions, there will be a high price to pay. We as a people must not be blinded by the fading romances of long lovers' reunions and their lustful quest for power. We must not be drawn in by race and rants that end in useless anger.

We need to respect ourselves, our people and treat each other with the same salve that they embalm on their worth, and then and only then we would be able to begin to save this country.

I can cite many quotes from many leaders to sustain my point here but I feel the best message to leave is for those that can see, let them, but don't shine your light in my eye and call me blind!
