Trinidad and Tobago had a winning start to their West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Men’s Three-Day Championship as they defeated Jamaica by five wickets at Sion Hill Playing Field, Sion Hill, St Vincent, on Monday.

Jamaica resumed their second innings on the final day’s play on 31/3, still eight runs adrift of TT’s first innings total of 192. They were eventually bundled out for 145, a slim lead of 106 runs.

TT bowler Nick Ramlal had a mesmerising spell of 6/18 from 7.5 overs while Andrew Rambaran snagged 2/19.

Set at 107 for victory, the TT team lost three early wickets but held their own to reach a victorious 108/5, with Rajeev Ramnath (35) again top-scoring and Ramlal (18) also chipping in.

Ramnath was TT’s best batsman in the first innings as he slammed 63 runs.

In other matches, Windward Islands pulled off a one-wicket victory over Leewards at Arnos Vale Playing Field in Kingstown.

Batting first on the opening day, Leewards were dismissed for 141. In reply, Windwards went all out for 108 to give Leewards a 33-run lead.

When Leewards batted again, they scored 111, and set Windwards a target of 145 for victory. Led by N Leo (45) and S Pascal (35), Windwards successfully reached 145/9 to claim victory.

And at Park Hill Playing Field in Colonarie, Barbados defeated Guyana by 80 runs.

In their first innings, the Bajans were steered to a strong target of 302/9 courtesy half-centuries from J Morris (59), J Dorne (56) and N Bolden (50), and 46 from A Browne.

Guyana were then dismissed for 183, which gave Barbados a lead of 119 runs heading into the second innings.

The Bajans returned to the middle and declared on 152/4, setting up a hefty target of 271 for victory, for the Guyanese.

Guyana had a fair response, owing to Z Ramsammy’s 76, but it was not to be, as they were eventually dismissed for 191 to give Barbados an opening win.

On Thursday, round two bowls off with TT U19s up against Barbados at Park Hill, Jamaica meet Leewards at Cumberland Playing Field and Windwards play Guyana at Arnos Vale.
