A Venezuelan man who was killed in La Romaine over the weekend has been identified as Guilare Troya.

Troya, 20, lived with his mother in an apartment in La Romaine.

Reports are that Troya left his home on a bicycle around 2 pm on Friday to sell an iPhone in the district, but never returned home.

Around 12.06 pm on Saturday, an anonymous caller told the Southern Division Operations Centre of a body lying on the M2 Ring Road, La Romaine.

CID officers who were on mobile patrol in the area found the body lying on its back in a bushy, remote area on the eastern side off the dirt road.

The body bore stab wounds to the face and left upper back and had a tattoo of the words “Get rich or die trying” on the left upper arm and another of praying hands on the left upper back.

Troya was barebacked and wore only black three-quarter pants at the time of his death.

A piece of a concrete block to which a bent piece of a quarter-inch steel bar was attached was found lying close by.

DMO Dr Melissa Bachan pronounced him dead and ordered his body taken to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital, pending a postmortem at the Forensic Centre, Port of Spain.

Crime scene investigators and officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, processed the scene and retrieved awhite T-shirt, a white tie strap and a pair of black slippers, along with the concrete block with the steel attached.

A key holder with a bunch of keys and a key tag labelled “Apt 1” was found in the dead man's left front pocket.

Police are seeking a motive for the killing.
