Trinidad and Tobago, Windwards to clash in U-19 women’s cricket final

TT SEALED a spot in the final of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s 30-over Championships with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Guyana in the last round of the preliminary stage at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus on Thursday.

Kirah Manpaul and Djenaba Joseph grabbed three wickets apiece to restrict Guyana to 80 all out in 29.1 overs. Joseph snatched 3/15 in 5.1 overs and Manpaul bagged 3/21 in six overs. KD Jazz Mitchell was also among the wickets taking 2/12 in five overs.

Sheneta Grimmond struck 26 off 59 balls and captain Ashmini Munisar chipped in with 13 off 25 deliveries, but they were the only two batters to reach double figures.

In response, TT eased their way to 81/2 in 21.3 overs with Samara Ramnath hitting 31 not out off 56 balls. Joseph struck a patient 18 off 47 deliveries and Shunelle Sawh made 16 off 27 balls.

TT finished second at the end of the preliminary phase with three wins and two no results.

TT will face Windward Islands in the final at UWI on Saturday at 10 am.

At National Cricket Centre in Couva, Windward Islands sealed top spot in the preliminary phase after getting past Jamaica by four wickets.

Jamaica were dismissed for 108 in 29.5 overs and in reply Windwards scored 111/6 in 19.3 overs.

At Gilbert Park in California, Barbados whipped Leeward Islands by eight wickets. Leewards posted 98/7 in their 30 overs, before Barbados cruised to 99/2 in 19.2 overs.

TT defeated Windward Islands by 20 runs in the preliminary phase of the tournament and may have the psychological edge.
