THE Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 women cricketers were left disappointed as their match against Leeward Islands in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 tournament was abandoned because of rain at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine on Tuesday.

TT were in a strong position when rain ended the match.

Bowling first, TT’s KD Jazz Mitchell grabbed a five-wicket haul to help limit Leeward Islands to 84/8 in 30 overs.

Mitchell ended with remarkable figures of 5/3 in six overs and Samara Ramnath picked up 2/4 in six overs. Only two Leeward Islands batters reached double figures with Jahzara Claxton scoring 19 and Aaliyah Weekes contributing ten.

TT could have held Leeward Islands to less than 50, but they leaked 43 extras including 35 wides.

TT did not get an opportunity to bat as rain stopped the match.

In other matches, Guyana defeated Jamaica by 25 runs at Gilbert Park in California and Windward Islands got past Barbados by 80 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method at the National Cricket Centre in Couva.

The final round in the preliminary phase will be played on Thursday.

The top teams will play in the final on Saturday at UWI.

Windward Islands and Guyana have three wins and TT are on two wins after four rounds. Jamaica only have one win and Leeward Islands and Barbados are still winless.
