Fewer Tobago students score under 30% in SEA

Tobago has seen a decrease in the number of remedial students scoring below 30 per cent in this year's Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) exam.

Education Secretary Zorisha Hackett presented an overview of the 2023 exam on Monday at a virtual press conference.

Hackett said of the 1,048 students who sat the exam – 513 girls and 535 boys – a total of 159 scored under 30 per cent.

“This accounts for 15 per cent of the total students. marking a substantial improvement compared to 2022, (when) 329 students – 33 per cent of the 984 candidates (who) wrote the exam – required remedial assistance.”

She said the island has 39 primary schools, which includes 25 denominational, 13 government and one private, adding that 32 private candidates were also registered.
