Trident II, Arrow, Mobil Outlaw star in choppy waters

Trident II completed a hat-trick of victories in difficult condition as regatta four of the TT Powerboat Association (TTPBA) National Championship Series sped off at Casters Cove, Chaguaramas on Sunday.

TTPBA president Johnathan Tardieu said HE was heartened by the turnout of spectators amid the rain. "The regatta has picked up a lot of momentum. Spectatorship has been growing steadily. Hopefully after this one, whoever has any issues will be able to fix and come out for the final regatta on July 15.

"The guys from Tobago weren't able to come down this weekend but hopefully can come up for the last one.".

He said the water was slightly choppy during the first half of racing, but the water got really rough after the break with huge swells entering the bay.

He said this resulted in some vessels breaking down.

From a safety standpoint, racers were okay and it was an incident-free day of racing.

Trident II blazed the trail to win the 60mph class, beating runner-up Raw Knots and third-placed Knot in Slow Motion.

Mr Solo too was the unchallenged winner of the 130mph category, while Iron Man, also unchallenged, claimed the top honours in the 120mph division. In the 80mph category, Mobil Outlaw outclassed second-placed Blue Ice.

Extreme Measures prevailed in the 70mph class, followed by New World Order.

The winner of the Bowen Special Class was Arrow followed by Kraken and Pandemic, in that order.

Remedy was crowned champions of the 50mph category.

There will be one more regatta, on July 15, before the grand finale – the 2023 TT Great Race – speeds off on August 19.
