KFC will distribute 5,000 seedlings across all its locations today in celebration of Corpus Christi. Customers visiting any restaurant will receive complimentary seedlings thus "enabling customers to embrace the spirit of renewal and growth," a media release said.

The company said it hopes the gesture will inspire individuals to reconnect with nature and instil a sense of responsibility toward the environment.

Vice president of KFC and Pizza Hut Roger Rambharose said this giveaway is the first in its efforts aimed at food sustainability and preserving the environment.

"At KFC, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of our customers and the world we all share, By sharing these seedlings, we hope to inspire our customers to embrace the concept of growing as much of our food as we can," Rambharose said in the release.

"We believe that every plant represents a step towards a sustainable and thriving future for all. We have planned a series of activations targeted at preserving the environment and this is just the first."

Rambharose said the next event will be a hike and plant activity as the company is committed to planting 1,500 trees on Lady Chancellor Hill, Port of Spain, within the next week and over 5,000 before the end of year.

KFC said by providing these plants, the company aims to support local conservation efforts and raise awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability.

The company is encouraging people to share their planting experiences on social media using the hashtag: #KFCSeedlings
