The Caribbean Premier League T20 Tournament’s most achieved player Dwayne Bravo returns home to the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) for the 2023 edition.

This was confirmed in a statement by the franchise on Wednesday.

Bravo’s re-signing, after spending two years away at St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, comes on the heels of TKR’s announcement on Tuesday, that former West Indies player and coach Phil Simmons will coach the team this year, in search of the squad’s historic fifth CPLT20 crown.

Bravo represented the TT franchise from 2013 to 2020 and won the title four times in that period. In 2021, he took on a “new challenge” and headed to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, where he led them to a maiden title.

The 39 year old all-rounder said, “Well, the wait is over. It’s official. Home is home, and I’m very happy to be back at TKR. Venky (Mysore, TKR director) always said even after I had left, that the door will always be open for me to come back to Knight Riders.”

“My best friend (Kieron Pollard) is the captain, so hopefully I can bring to the table what I can, and help him in whatever way possible to lift the trophy. I just want to see the red, black and white flying high and dominating in the CPL.”

The complete squads for the 2023 Republic Bank CPLT20 will be announced during the draft show which will be broadcast at the end June.

TKR manager Collin Borde was elated to welcome Bravo back to the set up and believes he brings added character and skill to the franchise.

“It’s with great excitement that we welcome the champion home. As we all know, Dwayne’s ever essence, vitality, warmth, mixed with his ferocious competitiveness and appetite for winning, will always be an asset to any team.

“His experience and great sharing of information with our skipper Pollard, alongside Phill Simmons and the senior players can only be a benefit to this team.”

Borde deemed Bravo a “natural competitor.”

Mysore said Bravo has been one of the key pillars on which TKR has been built.

“We are delighted to welcome him back home and look forward to another enjoyable season. There’s no doubt the entire team TKR and our fans will eagerly look forward to seeing him back in TKR colours.”

TKR play their first match of the 2023 edition against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia on August 19.
