La Fortune Sports Club were crowned champions of the 103.1 FM & Southern Sports T20 Cricket Fiesta after securing a 35-run victory over Rochard Road Sports Club in the title match at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, on Friday.

Batting first, La Fortune totalled 137/7 in their 20 overs, led by opening batsman Javed Mohammed (27) and Peter Grimes (26). Mohammed smacked four boundaries and Grimes launched two sixes and two fours.

Suresh Baal (16) and Neil Ali (12) also chipped in.

Visham Ramroop (3/20) was Rochard Road’s best bowler while Dave Mohammed (1/17) and James Duncan (1/33) snagged one scalp each.

Set at 138 for victory, and playing with just ten batsmen, Rochard Road struggled to form partnerships and were eventually whittled away for 102/9 from 16.2 overs.

Keegan Jagessar (45) was the only batsman who showed some resistance while Narendra Henry (10) was second best with the bat.

Alvin Ramlogan was La Fortune’s chief destroyer as he picked up 3/19 while Mohammed also showed form with the ball, taking 2/15.

The victory for La Fortune saw them pocket the $20,000 prize while Rochard Road settled for $10,000.

In the high-scoring third-place playoff, Tariq Abdool blasted an unbeaten 129 runs to guide Spoilers Debe to a victorious 200/4 from 16 overs, in reply to Settlement All Rounders’ challenging total of 197/5.

All Rounders looked good in the opening innings and were steered by brilliant middle-order knocks from Josh Ramjeewan (80) and Shiva Mahase (55). Shiva Jagessar scored 24.

Bowling for Spoilers was Timothy Narine (1/23), Avalon Cuffy (1/31), Abdool (1/40), Arian Koylass (1/47) and Inool Khan (1/54).

In their turn at the crease, Spoilers lost openers Cuffy (12) and Brian Deosaran (six) with 22 on the board.

But Abdool played fearlessly and despite seeing partners Narine and Shazim Khan (11) perish beside him, he was ruthless with the bat and fired Spoilers home, and to the $5000 pot, with four overs to spare.

All Rounders received $2,500 for finishing fourth.
