CSO: Food prices decrease again

THE retail price index (RPI) provided by the Central Statistical Office has marked yet another decrease in inflation as food prices for March go down.

The inflation rate for March according to the RPI was 7.7 per cent, marking a decrease from 8.0 per cent in February. However, it noted that the inflation rate for the same period was at 4.1 per cent.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased from 147.8 price points in February to 146.1 in March – a 1.2 per cent decrease.

The CSO said the prices of pumpkin, tomatoes, melon, hot peppers, cabbage, melongene, carrots, pimento, parboiled rice and celery went down while the prices of chilled or frozen beef, fresh beef, chilled or frozen pork, cucumber, onions, oranges, table margarine, grapes, corn and plantains went up.
