Two held with ammo in roadblock

Two men were arrested by police officers on the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Friday after the police found 60 rounds of 5.56 ammunition in their possession.

According to the police, at 1.40 pm officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch made a routine stop on the southbound lane of the highway when they noticed the front seat passenger of a black Ford Ranger was not wearing a seatbelt.

When the police signalled the driver to stop, the passenger, a 32-year-old man from Pt Fortin, got out of the vehicle carrying a black bag and ran but he was caught a short distance away.

The police allegedly found a black plastic bag with 60 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.

The driver, 34, from Pt Fortin, was arrested and was questioned by police.

The police later searched the Claxton Bay home of the passenger and found an magazine for a rifle and seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.
