Richplain man held with gun, ammo

A 42-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by police who seized an ammunition drum magazine and a quantity of

ammunition on Friday in Richplain, Diego Martin.

The suspect, who lives in Unity Road, Richplain, was intercepted by Western Division Task Force (WDTF) police officers responding to a report of men armed with guns in the community.

According to a police press release, on Friday night, officers were deployed to investigate the report when they intercepted a white Nissan Tiida. While searching the vehicle, police officers heard several loud explosions a short distance away and responded.

Upon arrival at the location, police saw a man with a light-coloured backpack on his back who looked in the direction of the marked police vehicle and began running up a stairway.

The lawmen gave chase and held the suspect. During a search, police found a black drum-shaped ammunition magazine containing 14 rounds of nine-millimetre bullets. The man was arrested and is at the St James Police Station. PC Mc Clean is continuing enquiries.

In an unrelated incident, Four Roads police went to an area along La Horquette Valley Road, Glencoe near Riverside Terrace where an extensive search was carried out.

Police found and seized a Rossi .38 special revolver and two rounds of ammunition. No arrest was made and investigations are continuing.
