Caesar’s Army opens its Carnival season with Bacchanalia Festival from February 4-5. Dubbed the Roman Carnival before (Trinidad) Carnival, the festival will feature a trio of events, in two days, with an all-star DJ cast and headline entertainers.

Caesar’s Army CEO Jules Sobion said the festival concept has been brewing for some time. In a media release he said, "We introduced Bacchanalia back in 2020 with Blocko and Bacchanal Road alongside Bacchanal Road Led. It worked well. Considering the 2023 offering, however, we wanted to add a chic event to the lineup. So, that’s where Bacchanalia – the Bacchanal Fete came in. The festival, therefore, is the ultimate marriage of event executions that have become synonymous with the army over the years.

“Looking at the scale of events like Bacchanal Road, which attracts a wide cross-section locally, regionally and from the diaspora, the weekend festival just made sense. It is the perfect opportunity for people to experience a taste of Carnival before Carnival Monday and Tuesday. This year is building up to be something special.”

Bacchanal Blocko – The J’Ouvert Initiation will start the weekend on February 4, from 3 am-9 am, at The Colosseum (Hasely Crawford Stadium) featuring Bunji Garlin. Over 20 committees, including Tribe, Scorch, Air Committee and Illusions will join the fete-goers with their carts and cooler, in all-white toga wear, for a Roman initiation complete with paint, power and water, the release said.

Bacchanalia – The Bacchanal Fete, follows later that day from 5 pm-1 pm at The Pantheon (Drew Manor). Voice and his band will welcome patrons in their Roman/ Italian attire.

Rounding off the weekend is Bacchanal Road – The Street Parade on February 5, from 2 pm-8 pm, at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, which will be transformed into The Circus Maximus. Festival-goers will be out in their Carnival Monday wear for this all-inclusive road experience.

Sobion also declared that this year’s Road March will be decided at Bacchanal Road. “In previous years, we were always on point with the Road March prediction coming out of the event. We expect that this year will be no different,” he said.
