C&B Crown Cordaans are eyeing their first Panorama small conventional bands title on Saturday, at the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

The Canaan/Bon Accord-based band is pumped for the occasion after their rendition of Mash Up by the late Dexter "Blaxx" Stewart, which placed them in fifth position, following the semi-finals at Victoria Square, Port of Spain last Saturday.

Koreece Graham, who has been the arranger/musical director of the band for the past five years, attributes the success of the band to the growth of the players, management and himself.

He told Newsday, "When I became arranger of the band in 2018, most of the players were in their teens and inexperienced, and there was little time to groom and gel in preparation for the 2019 season.

“But the band members have learned their craft and become more professional and technically sound over the years. They have also developed a greater appreciation for the band.

“The management has a better understanding of what is required to win the category, in terms of logistics and rehearsals. My knowledge and personal skills have also expanded, so we are seeing the full package unfold this year.”

Graham was cautious to divulge any major adjustments for the finals, but is confident of a titanic expression, when the band takes the stage in the number six position.

"We took note of the judges’ comments and the full complement of 60 band members are dedicated and willing to put in a greater effort, so the audience can expect a quality performance with enhanced visual effects.”

C&B Crown Cordaans manager Aaron Trim was high in praise for the work done by Graham and drillmaster Akua Leith, in lifting the profile of the band, which has been in existence for 20 years.

He said, “The professionalism and motivation displayed by Graham and Leith is exceptional and unprecedented in the history of the band, to bring us where we are.

“We made the biggest jump from the preliminaries where we placed thirteenth with 243 points to fifth in the semifinals with 266 points. Right now our players are fully motivated to give their best performance and hopefully get the desired results.”

Trim added, “The community is excited and rooting for our success, which has boosted the morale of the players, and while we are not a sponsored band, I want to personally thank the individuals who have contributed to our effort.”

Tobago will feature six bands among the 16 finalists. Uptown Fascinators of Tobago won the semifinals with 277 points.
