Former sport minister Manohar Ramsaran, left, is hugged by Kelly Village/Warrenville councillor and Munroe Road Cricket Club chairman Samuel Sankar, while recovering from injuries at Mt Hope Hospital last week.

Ex-Minister of Sport Manohar Ramsaran, 73, is now warded at Sangre Grande Hospital and is scheduled to begin an operation on his left hand on Thursday.

Ramsaran’s hand was broken on Tuesday after he was attacked by a homeless person who was using the Munroe Road Cricket Club’s facility for shelter.

Ramsaran, club president, told the man to leave but he became angry and began to hit him with a piece of wood.

Club chairman Samuel Sankar confirmed that Ramsaran was transferred from Mt Hope Hospital to Sangre Grande on Wednesday and will undergo the operation on Thursday.

“He’s doing well but he’s not out of the woods yet. The operation to repair his broken hand will involve the doctors inserting some clips and screws. However, he remains in good spirits. He is still in some pain but the medical team is working with him.”

Sankar said Ramsaran had a good rest at Mt Hope on Tuesday night and when doctors checked his vitals on Wednesday morning, “everything was good.”

He added that Ramsaran’s son, a medical doctor based abroad, arrived in Trinidad on Wednesday and “is working close with his father’s health care service providers.”

Sankar said, “He remains in good spirits and is on the mend. We again would like to thank the medical staff at both Mt Hope and Sangre Grande for their amazing work so far.”
