DUNROSS Preparatory School won the first leg of the TT Triathlon Federation (TTTF) school series when an aquathlon event was held recently at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva.

In an aquathlon, event participants are required to run and swim.

Dunross ended the event as the top Primary school with 1,285 points, followed by Bishop Anstey Junior School (700 points) and St Andrew’s Private School (675).

In the Secondary schools category, St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain won the girls category, Fatima College claimed the boys division and Maple Leaf took the mixed school title.

The athletes were split into many age groups.

In the 12 and Under girls, Leah De Freitas of Dunross showed her quality to win the category. Samantha Defreitas Manswell also demonstrated her ability with a second-place finish and Jodie-Marie Riley of St Monica’s Preparatory ended third.

In the 12 and Under boys, Jacob Jacelon of St Andrew’s won gold, Malachi Leach of Bishop Anstey claimed silver and Nasique George of St Monica’s took bronze.

The TTTF saw 16 Primary and 17 Secondary schools participate. A media release by the TTTF said, “The individual numbers were also very encouraging, 99 in the Primary and 77 in the Secondary level.

“A few of the schools that took part that are relatively new to the event are Exchange Presbyterian, Curepe Presbyterian and San Fernando Boys RC to name a few. There were also those that attend this event since its inception such as Dunross, St Andrew’s and Bishop Anstey Junior.”

Also in an effort to continue growing the sport and bring communities together, the TTTF invited children from the Morvant Community Pool.

“To also build community strength, the TTTF invited a group of children from the Morvant Community Pool to take part. This group came with six children all of who participated and one of which earned points for their group. It is hoped that they continue to come and participate in our events.”
