Darius Rahaman, Christopher Khan through to Sagicor tennis semifinals

DARIUS Rahaman and Christopher Khan both progressed to the semifinals of the boys Under-12 singles category at the 2022 Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair, on Monday.

Rahaman was ruthless against Jack Brown winning the quarterfinal contest 4-0, 4-0.

Khan defeated second-seeded Zelig Williams 4-2, 2-4, 10-6 to advance.

In other quarterfinal matches in the division, top seeded Josiah Hills continued his impressive showing in the tournament with a 5-4 (1), 4-2 win over Jaysean Wells. Nirav Dougdeen, who has been in excellent form during the tournament, could not get past Oliver Harragin.

Harragin advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2, 1-4, 10-4 victory. In the boys Under-16 singles round of 16 there were a few one-sided victories.

Callum Koylass prevailed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over James Hadden, fourth-seeded Alex Chin crushed Marquis Henry 6-0, 6-0, Daniel Rahaman was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Isaac George and Malcolm Prince outlasted Joaquinn Headley 6-1, 6-3.

Beckham Sylvester and Isaiah Boxill were made to work hard for their victories.

Third-seeded Sylvester got past Kayden Siewrattan 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 and Boxill defeated Deron Dumas 7-6(6), 1-6, 10-7.

In the girls Under-12 singles quarterfinals, Lily Mohammed outlasted Anneleise Orr 4-1, 4-1.

In the boys Under-14 singles quarterfinals, Connor Carrington prevailed with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Daniel Dumas and Jovan Garibana advanced after Liev Khan retired when Garibana was leading 6-3, 5-2.

In the girls Under-18 round robin category there were wins for Bethany Salina and top seeded Aalisha Alexis. Salina beat Jada Des Vignes 6-3, 6-1 and Alexis won by a walkover against Jade Ali. Matches continue on Tuesday from 9 am.
