VETERAN sports photographer Anthony Harris has died.

Harris succumbed to injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while cycling around the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday morning. The driver of the car never stopped.

Harris died at the Port of Spain General Hospital on Sunday morning.

His daughter Charisse confirmed her father’s passing on Sunday morning by posting to social media.

“I regret to inform everyone that our loving sweetheart of a father Anthony Harris has passed. We will inform everyone of funeral arrangements when they are available. Please understand that we are grieving and kindly give us time to process this loss,” she wrote.

Tributes poured in on social media in memory of the former Guardian Media Ltd freelance photographer.

The TT Football Association (TTFA) issued a statement saying Harris “provided a stream of top-quality photographs from several of our events.

“He always took the trouble to understand what was happening at our national team matches, training sessions or press conferences, and was never satisfied until he had got exactly the shot he wanted. And when he did, he would tell you, ‘Got what I came for, I’m out’. And you could rely on his presence even in the bleakest conditions. But it was this approach that made him such a wonderful professional to work with, also being a kind and gentle man.

“Through his lens, Anthony lived through all the highs and lows of TT football.”

The TT Cycling Federation also recognised his contribution to sport over the years.

“We are greatly saddened by this situation and pray for continued strength. We thank Anthony for his service to the cycling federation over the years. May he rest in peace!”

Other sport-related media such as Richard Lyder Photography and TT Sport Diary, among others, offered words of support to the family via different social media platforms.
