AN unbeaten knock of 56 from Djenaba Joseph propelled Trinidad and Tobago to a comfortable seven-wicket Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Under-19 Rising Stars T20 Championship win over Barbados at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba on Wednesday.

Sent in to bat, Barbados got to 113 for two in their 20 overs. The hosts, however, proved superior and rallied to their second win in as many matches by racing to a victorious 115/3 from 17.1 overs.

Barbados’ opening batters Trishan Holder (32) and Zaliya Campbell (27 not out) built a good opening stance of 49 before the former was run out by Maria La Foucade.

Naijanni Cumberbatch (duck) then perished after just two balls faced, caught by Amelia Khan off captain Shalini Samaroo’s off-spin.

Campbell then teamed up with eventual top scorer Asabi Callender (34 not out) to lead the visitors to 113/2.

In their turn at the crease, TT lost both openers Shunelle Sawh (five) and Samaroo (12) with the score on 18. Samara Ramnath (nine) followed soon after.

But Joseph’s introduction to the middle saw her buckle down with Aniaya Roberts (15 not out) to lead TT over the line and remain perfect after the opening two matches. Joseph hit nine fours from her 33 balls faced.

On Tuesday, Samaroo (63) and Sawh’s 53 not out were integral in securing a first-match win for TT over Leeward Islands.

In other matches on Wednesday, USA also maintained an unblemished record by getting past Windward Islands Volcanoes by eight wickets at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, Diego Martin. Guyana also thumped Leewards by a ten-wicket margin.

TT return to action against Jamaica in Diego Martin on Saturday from 9:30am.
