Tobago celebrates Pride Month

The Tobago Pride Association (TPA) celebrated Pride Month with its signature flag-raising ceremony on June 25 at Fort King George, Scarborough. The flag-raising was held simultaneously at five other locations in Trinidad.

The association joined other pride organisations on Sunday at the Pride Parade, hosted by PrideTT, in Port of Spain.

The TPA, which was incorporated on April 14, 2021, has been instrumental in raising awareness of the LBGTQIA+ community in Tobago, In 2019, the TPA hosted its first flag-raising at Signal Hill during that year’s Pride Month. Since then, the events and the scope of pride celebrations continue to grow.

On June 30, the organisation is hosting Hear Me Out, an event to bring awareness to the many issues that affect the LBGTQIA+ community.

Proud and Safe, set for July 13, is a discussion forum for queer youth, by queer youth, focusing on how they navigate their sexuality in a society that may not always make them feel either proud or safe.

On July 9, there is a pop-up market that caters to businesses owned by members of the community, allies and supporters. Everyone is free to participate. Categorised under the larger umbrellas of awareness, education, entertainment, health, fitness and even finance, over 13 TPA events cater to all.
