Pacers put West Indies in front against Bangladesh

AN IMPRESSIVE effort by the West Indies fast bowlers, including debutant Anderson Phillip, put the home team in front at stumps on day one of the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Friday.

After dismissing Bangladesh for 234, West Indies closed on 67 without loss.

The fast bowling trio of Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales and Phillip combined to grab eight wickets.

Joseph took 3/50 in 15 overs, Seales snatched 3/53 in 14.2 overs and Phillip ended with 2/30 in nine overs.

Phillip received his Test cap from experienced fast bowler Kemar Roach before the match. Roach did not get any wickets on the opening day.

Medium pacer Kyle Mayers grabbed 2/35 in eight overs.

Litton Das was the best batsman for Bangladesh hitting 53 off 70 balls with eight fours.

Opener Tamim Iqbal struck 46 off 67 deliveries which included nine fours.

West Indies batted positively in the final session closing on 67 without loss in 16 overs with captain Kraigg Brathwaite 30 not out and John Campbell 32 not out.

The match continues on Saturday, from 10 am.
