TRINIDAD and Tobago swimmer Dylan Carter failed to advance to the men’s 50 metres freestyle semi-final when action continued at the 19th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday.

Although Carter was the fastest finisher in heat eight, with a time of 22.19 seconds, his clocking fell just outside of the 16 advancing semi-finalists. Overall, Carter finished an agonising 17th place.

Before his heat, Carter had to undergo a swim-off heat against Korean Yuchan Ji, which he won in 21.91 seconds.

Had the TT swimmer clocked this time in heat eight, it would have been good enough for a spot in the semi-final round.

Meanwhile, compatriot Cherelle Thompson was fourth in heat three of the women’s 50m butterfly and thus, was unable to move on to the next round. She clocked 29.29s and placed 46th overall.
