OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reiterated her call for Attorney General Reginald Armour, SC, to resign immediately or for the Prime Minister to fire him, regarding his disqualification in the almost two-decade-old Piarco Airport corruption case in a Miami court.

She repeated this call on Monday after rejecting a statement Armour made in an announcement published on Tuesday and dated June 20.

In his statement, Armour said he was never given an opportunity to correct the record in the Miami court, when he recalled the full extent of his involvement in the defence of his former client Brian Kuei Tung in the local courts.

Armour insisted he never tried to mislead the Miami court when he spoke of his role in Kuei Tung’s defence over a decade ago.

In an affidavit in response to a motion by Kuei Tung to strike out the US lawsuit, Armour first claimed he played a minimal role as the defendants’ lawyer in TT, which was limited to “legal research and taking notes.”

The judge’s disqualification ruling is currently being appealed.

In her statement, Persad-Bissessar said, "Essentially, AG Armour’s statements confirm that he has brought his office and our country into grave disrepute."

She claimed the extend of this disrepute was nationally, regionally and internationally."

"By his own words, he has also admitted that he is simply unsuited and unqualified for the prestigious office he now sits in."

Persad-Bissessar also claimed Armour has "confessed to lacking competence, integrity and common sense."

Against this background, she said Armour must resign or be fired by Dr Rowley.

"The taxpayers of Trinidad and Tobago deserve nothing less."
