WEST Indies are 35 runs away from taking a 1-0 lead in their two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

West Indies, chasing 84 runs to win, ended on 49/3 at stumps on day three at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Saturday.

At one stage, West Indies were reduced to 9/3 with captain Kraigg Brathwaite (one), Raymon Reifer (two) and Nkrumah Bonner (duck) all dismissed.

Medium pacer Khaled Ahmed took all three wickets.

John Campbell (28 not out) and Jermaine Blackwood (17 not out) avoided any further damage steering West Indies to the close.

Earlier in the day’s play, Bangladesh were all out for 245 in their second innings after resuming on 50/2. It was a modest lead of 83 runs.

Bangladesh were struggling on 109/6, before a 123-run partnership gave the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan frustrated the Windies with a battling stand. Fast bowler Kemar Roach broke the partnership when he removed Al Hasan and the other Bangladesh batsmen quickly followed.

Al Hasan struck 63 and Hasan top scored with 64.

Roach ended with 5/53 in 24.5 overs and fellow fast bowler Alzarri Joseph took 3/55 in 19 overs.
