Trinidad and Tobago team returns from 2022 USA Special Olympics Games

THE Special Olympics of TT (SOTT) team returned home with three medals after participating at the 2022 USA Special Olympics Games in Orlando, Florida from June 5-12.

The delegation consisted of four athletes, one coach and one head of delegation.

According to head coach Cheryl Ann Baird, despite the new environment and short time to acclimatize, the athletes were able to perform admirably and capture three medals from the five events in which they competed.

Alicia Khan won gold in the bocce singles, Isaiah Thomas and Michele Cooper won silver in bocce doubles, Thomas claimed bronze in the bocce singles and Cooper and Gary James-Boodoo each brought home fifth place ribbons in the bocce singles.

The delegation landed in Trinidad on Sunday night. Thomas travelled to his hometown Tobago on Monday and was given a warm welcome despite the rainy weather.

Thomas was greeted at the ANR International Airport by a contingent headed by assistant secretary of the Division of Education, Research and Technology Orlando Kerr, assistant secretary with responsibility for Sport Wayne Clarke representing the Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport, dancers from the Division of Tourism and students, teachers and the principal of the Happy Haven School.
