Sween shines for Scorchers in T10 Blast

DEXTER Sween delivered a quality performance to guide Fides Ltd Scarlet Ibis Scorchers to a seven-wicket win in the TT Cricket Board Dream XI T10 Blast at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, on Saturday.

In the second match of the day, Tiger Tanks Cocrico Cavaliers scored a competitive 107/6 against Scorchers batting first.

Jesse Bootan struck 38 off 27 deliveries and Akeem Alvarez hit 19.

Bowling for Scorchers, Mikkel Govia grabbed 2/17 and Sween took 2/18.

Sween returned with the bat to lash 35 not out off only 11 balls to propel Scorchers to 110/3 in 9.3 overs.

He slammed two fours and three sixes.

Randy Mahase provided ample support with 27 not out off 19 balls.

Strassark Sankar was the pick of the bowlers with 1/19 in two overs.

The first match of the day was a six-over per side contest because of rain.

Defending champions Fine Choice Steelpan Strikers made 72/3, before limiting Valini’s Supermart Leatherback Giants to 69/4 to escape with a three-run win.

The tournament continues at Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday with matches at noon and 2.30 pm.
