A delegation from the Nigerian National Defence College (NDC) is in Trinidad and Tobago to learn more about the country's economy and hydrocarbon sector.

The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries said in a release it had planned a list of activities for the NDC from June 5-11, which included presentations and tours of the ministry, the National Gas Company, Proman and BPTT Galeota.

The release said the NDC is the highest military training institution for the Nigerian armed forces, as well as being a centre of excellence for peace support operations training at the strategic level in West Africa. The group in TT consists of colonels and equivalent ranks from the Nigerian land, sea and air defence; senior police and strategic governmental agency personnel; as well as military officers from other African and Asian countries.

The ministry welcomed the delegation and presented its head, Air Commodore Olusola Frederick Akinboyewa, with a token of appreciation.

In her welcoming address, acting Permanent Secretary Sandra Fraser highlighted the history of co-operation between TT and African countries, emphasising the commitment made at the African Union Conference of Heads of State and Government in January 2007.

She also noted the numerous advances into African countries made by TT entrepreneurs and private-sector companies, including Paramount Transport and Trading Company Ltd (Ghana), Professional Petroleum Services Ltd (Nigeria), Trinidad Oilfield Services Ltd (Ghana, Nigeria), and Kenson Group of Companies (Uganda).

She affirmed TT's commitment to continued collaboration with Nigeria, saying such visits by high-level representation help to bolster that relationship even further.
