Hosein, King star as Windies clinch ODI series

LEFT-ARM SPINNER Akeal Hosein and batsman Brandon King had career-best One Day International (ODI) performances on Thursday as the West Indies took an unassailable 2-0 series lead, in their three-match series against the Netherlands, following a five-wicket win in the second ODI at Amstelveen.

Hosein took four wickets for 39 runs, off his allotted ten overs, as the Netherlands, who chose to bat first, slid from 101 without loss to 214, off 48.3 overs. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph took 2/30 while fellow pacer Anderson Phillip, as well as leg-spinners Hayden Walsh Jnr and Nkrumah Bonner, had one scalp each.

Scott Edwards led the Netherlands' batting with 68, while openers Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh scored 51 and 46 respectively.

The West Indies, who cruised to a seven-wicket win in the opening ODI on Tuesday, were in trouble at 99/5 in the 24th over before Keacy Carty joined King at the middle, and they featured in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 118 off 22.1 overs. King was unbeaten on 91 (90 deliveries, nine fours and three sixes) while Carty, in his second ODI (and maiden innings), made 43 not out (66 balls, two fours and a six), as the WI replied with 217/5 off 45.3 overs.

Pacer Bas de Leede was the leading bowler for the Dutch, with 2/46.

The third and final ODI between the teams will take place on Saturday.
