Crown Prince records easy victory at Guineas

CROWN PRINCE, ridden by Brian Boodramsingh, cruised to an expected victory in the Guineas on Monday, in the feature race of the Arima Race Club (ARC) 2022 season’s Race Day 10, at the Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

The three-year-old, trained by John O’Brien, was given odds of 1-2, in this 1,800-metre race, for West Indies-bred three-year-olds.

Only five horses faced the starter, with Color of Sacrifice a late scratch, but Princess Aruna, with Naim Samaroo aboard, was the early pace-setter, followed by Soca Harmony (ridden by Andrew Poon), Crown Prince and Top of the Game (ridden by Ricardo Jadoo), with Magical World (with Ridge Balgobin aboard) a distant fifth.

Midway on the back stretch, Crown Prince started to push ahead of the pack, but Soca Harmony tried his best to keep pace, under glorious conditions.

However, Poon was unable to get Harmony to narrow the gap, as Crown Prince completed the distance in one minute 57 seconds, in this first race of the Triple Crown.

Boodramsingh was the top jockey on Monday with three wins, while trainers O’Brien, Shaffique Ali and Lester Alexis had two victories apiece.

The next scheduled day of racing will be on June 20, where the President’s Cup will be contested.
