Mavis John shows Release The Dove video at North Coast Jazz

A video for Mavis John’s 2001 song Release the Dove will be released at the opening night of this year’s North Coast Jazz and Heritage Festival.

The event makes its return after being away for two years because of the pandemic and will be held from May 27-29 at the Solomon Hochoy Ground, Blanchisseuse.

John and one of the event’s organisers, Margaret Gittens, believe its release comes at an apt time especially given global events like the Russia-Ukraine War.

Gittens said, “It was written by Christophe Grant in 2001 when there were the September 11 attacks and it relates a lot to that. It was Christophe’s suggestion that we do a video. He thinks the time is right.”

She said the growing popularity of John’s song Use My Body in Europe propelled Grant to do the video.

Grant wants the video to go viral. Adrian Beauche produced the video.

The video will be officially launched at the jazz’s Feature Film Friday.

Gittens said the video will be shown, followed by John singing God Bless Our Nation, and then Machel Montano’s Bazodee.

Friday’s event is free.
