Paul: I can help to rebuild the PNM in Tobago

Learie Paul believes he is well poised to become the next chairman of the People’s National Movement’s (PNM’s) Tobago Council based on his experience and loyalty to the party.

Paul, who unsuccessfully contested the Plymouth/Black Rock seat in the December 6, 2021, THA election, is one of two people vying for the position of chairman in the party’s internal election on Sunday. The other candidate is former assemblyman Huey Cadette.

Paul said the PNM needs people with that level of experience and commitment to lead the party after its heavy 14-1 defeat to the Progressive Democratic Patriots in the THA election.

After voting at the Bishop’s High School, Paul said, “I would have decided to get involved in the process because of my experience, because of the fact that where we are today as a party and my years of service in the party, I said I have to be part of the rebuilding process.”

He added, “In situations like these, you need the best persons to come forward to see how they can help to rebuild. I bring the kind of experience that we need in terms of healing, reconciliation, the connection with the people on the ground.”

Paul said he has served in the party’s various groups, “So, I have a level of connection and expertise and, of course, could call easily on those that were there before. So, you have that continuity and synergy from the previous to the present.”

Asked about his chances, Paul said, “It is election so once you enter, you go to win and you give the persons a choice. You present yourself as the best choice and it is up to them to choose.

“So, I have made myself available to the party for service and I bring that level of service and commitment to the party and the people.”

Former education secretarfy Huey Cadette, whoi is also contesting the position of chairman,, voted at the Canaan Multipurpose Facility. He said the process was smooth.
