Tuesday’s murder of 62-year-old Sita Jagessar has left residents of Clarkia Drive and environs in Debe uneasy. They want to know why and who killed this "nice lady" in her house.

"God alone knows what happened. No one noticed anything unusual yesterday. She was a very nice lady. She never talked hard or quarreled with people. She lived good with everyone," a resident who asked to remain unnamed told Newsday on Wednesday.

A female relative returning home found Jagessar’s body in the family’s house at Clarkia Drive.

The body had a wound to the head and was found on the ground of the living room near the home's front door around 3.30 pm on Tuesday.

The relative alerted other relatives, who called the police.

The house was not ransacked, and the police could not confirm what, if anything, was missing. Investigators did not find a weapon and could not yet prove if the head wounds were caused by chopping or blunt force.

The police do not have a motive for the murder.

Another resident said, "Who did this (murder) is on the loose, so we (residents) all have to be careful. This area is usually quiet. It is frightening."

Jagessar would have turned 63 on Sunday.

Jagessar lived with her three adult children, a granddaughter and other people.

Acting Sgt Nanan, acting Cpl Ali, PC Gobin WPC Bahadoorsingh and other officers from the Barrackpore police station responded.

Homicide Bureau Region III police also visited the scene and gathered evidence.

Investigators were reviewing CCTV footage which they hope can solve the case.

A covid19 test is set to be done before an autopsy at the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James.

And Peter Guerero, 44, a painter, was shot dead in his house at La Lune Village around 10.30 pm. The police said gunshots were heard and residents called the Moruga police station.
