9 more die of covid19 despite reduced new cases

NINE people, among them two middle-aged men and one woman, have died as a result of covid19 between Friday and Saturday, the Ministry of Health has reported in its latest covid19 update.

The latest figure, which also includes two elderly men and four elderly women, takes the total to 3,617.

The ministry said three patients had multiple comorbidities, three had one comorbidity and the other three had no known medical conditions.

The number of new positive cases reported has declined considerably to 432 on Saturday in comparison to the tallies of 638, 654 and 722 new cases reported over the three previous days.

The new figure reflects samples taken between February 21-25 and not over the previous 24 hours.

The total number of active cases stands at 21,596. Since March 12, 2020, 126,934 cases have been reported.

As of Saturday, approximately 50.2 per cent of the population is reportedly fully-vaccinated.
