On Tuesday night, a 34-year-old woman from St Mary’s Village in Moruga went to put her garbage outside when a man accosted and hit her on her head with a gun while ordering her to hand over her jewellery.

The man then forced her back into her home, stole a cell phone and $2,000 before running off.

On Monday, Joshua Williams, 25, faced Princes Town magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine charged with robbery with violence. Williams, a landscaper who lives at Samuel Cooper Road, Fifth Company Village in Moruga, pleaded guilty.

The magistrate sentenced him to nine months’ hard labour for the offence.

Sgt Parasram, Cpl Nanan, WPC Hamilton and other police from the Barrackpore police station investigated the incident, which led to Williams’ arrest.

WPC Hamilton laid the charge, and Sgt Mohammed prosecuted the case.
