Relatives of Tobago fisherman Atiba Williams are asking for the public's help to find him, after he went missing during a fishing expedition on Thursday. His mother, Erica Williams, said she is desperate for any news about his disappearance.

Williams was last seen leaving his Goodwood home to go fishing in his pirogue in Scarborough on Wednesday morning.

The vessel, coloured white and pink on the exterior, with an aqua-blue interior, has "Mak-Mak" written on the sides.

The family took to social media on Friday after they could not contact him.

A missing person police report was made on Friday. Newsday understands a Coast Guard search took place on Thursday without success.

Williams' mother told Newsday her son's disappearance has left her distraught.

Asked how the family was coping with the uncertainty, she said, "Not good at all. When I tell you not good, I wish I could hear something just to know what is going on – where he is."

She said the last time she saw him was on Tuesday night while he was preparing for his fishing trip.

President of the All Tobago Fisherfolk Curtis Douglas told Newsday on Friday, "He went out with the help of another fisherman and they dropped their anchor when they reach by the rig.

"Fishermen go to the rig because it acts as a fishing aggregating device (FAD) that attracts fish with its lights. The other man headed back in and it seems Williams didn't make it back."

Augustine said, "Nah, nah, we have to find 'Tiba. He is a real one."
