A mother of two is claiming self-defence in a domestic dispute that ended in the killing a 31-year-old male relative.

Dead is Reon "Naughty" Rogers, 31, of Building C, Orchid Gardens, in Pleasantville.

He was unemployed but previously washed cars for a living.

The woman, who allegedly confessed to stabbing and choking the father of two, remained in police custody up to Friday.

She led police to the crime scene at about 9 pm on Thursday when they found Rogers’ body on the bedroom floor.

Police said the woman went to the Homicide Bureau Region III office in San Fernando on Thursday night and told investigators that he attacked her by kicking and cuffing her. In fighting back, she managed to grab a knife and stabbed him, then choked him.

The attack happened between late Wednesday or Thursday morning.

On Wednesday night, neighbours reported seeing the two drinking alcohol and liming at the apartment. The children were also in the apartment home.

On Thursday morning, the woman left with her two daughters, ages three and eight. It was only when she returned with police on Thursday night, neighbours became aware of the killing.

Newsday spoke to Rogers’ bereaved sister, Dana Rogers, near his apartment, which police have cordoned off.

"Both are violent to each other. They (Rogers and the woman) are accustomed to having disputes. They normally breakup and makeup. They would quarrel and fight for different reasons, like about money or the children," the sister said.

"The last time she left him was in May. She returned sometime this month. I cannot say if they ever made police reports about the disputes. But police never came here regarding them."

From what Dana heard, on Wednesday night her brother and the woman were "drinking and liming" in the house. On Thursday morning, neighbours did not hear any commotion or see anything to suggest he was killed.

She said she was at home in Gasparillo when she got a phone call around 9 pm about the killing. Owing to the curfew (9 pm to 5 am), she did not visit the crime scene then.

"So it seems the body was in the house the whole day."

Dana referred to Rogers as a "nice but miserable child."

Homicide Bureau Region III police are investigating.
