Point Fortin MP Kennedy Richards Jr has extended best wishes to mayor Saleema Thomas. who has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“The constituency and I stand with her at this time, to wish her a speedy recovery and all God’s blessings. She will get through this,” he said on Sunday.

Thomas, who is expecting her third child, confirmed on Saturday morning that she had contracted the virus and is in isolation at her home. She expressed some anxiety at being positive for this virus while pregnant.

“The virus is not really a respecter of anyone regardless of status, position, rank or anything in society. Covid19 could infect anybody. We just have to be a little more circumspect,” Richards told the Newsday on Sunday.

The Prime Minister himself recovered from the virus and former president Anthony Carmona and his daughter Aruna are also isolated at their Maraval home, having tested positive last week.

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi, out of an abundance of caution, has gone into quarantine after being identified as a primary contact for someone who contracted the virus.

Richards said information from the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) has confirmed that the number of infections in the constituency is rising significantly and advised all to take the public health regulations seriously.

“Although we have had 170 deaths in TT and millions across the globe, some people still believe covid19 is not real. I would advise them to speak to the survivors and to those who lost loved ones to the virus,” he said.
