Tarring and feathering may be required

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh - Ministry of Health

THE EDITOR: I saw a brave reporter ask the Health Minister on Wednesday about the origin of the covid19 Brazilian variant on our shores and I saw the minister retreat behind an arrogant statement rather than answer the question.

This was the same minister who spoke about xenophobia when the same question was raised in the daily newspapers last week. If this Brazilian variant has entered our shores via an illegal migrant, then we need to know how the ministry will contact-trace and quarantine the 30-odd other illegal migrants on the same boat as the infected one.

The fact that TT has a coast guard ship sitting in the harbour in St Vincent rather than patrolling the Gulf waters of TT in order to protect its citizens is beyond my understanding. If any citizen loses their life to this Brazilian variant, let those who left the barn door open be tarred and feathered.
