Elderly man dies in Scarborough fire

Investigations are ongoing into the Wednesday night fire which resulted in Kieron Williams, 68, being burnt to death in his Williams Trace, Government House Road, Scarborough house. The wooden house was completely destroyed.

According to Divisional Fire Officer David Thomas, around 7.30 pm, police and fire officials were alerted to the blaze be neighbours who saw the fire.

Williams, alias "Buggy," a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) retiree who lived alone, was believed to be the only person in the house at the time of the blaze. After the flames were doused, DMO Thomas ordered Williams' body removed to the Scarborough General Hospital's mortuary for autopsy.

Investigators were unable to return to the scene on Thursday due to inclement weather. Speaking with Newsday on Thursday, Williams’ cousin Annmarie Williams said the family was trying to cope with their loss.

“I’m saddened to know that it reached to a stage that this is how he died from – as a result of a fire. It is really unfortunate. The most I can say is may his soul rest in peace,” Williams said. Police have not yet ascertained the cause of the fire.
