The Ministry of Education said on Thursday face-to-face sessions will continue for secondary school students in forms five and six only.

In a statement, the ministry said in-person sessions should only take place “where absolutely necessary” to complete practical components for the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) exams this year.

The statement said schools will continue to work under strict covid19 guidelines and the ministry will continue to provide educational material through television, radio, print media, and online.

“All other secondary school students are not to report physically for school.”

It said schools will continue using a hybrid system, including online classes or print packages for teaching and in-person sessions to completepracticals, SBAs, and internal assessments (IAs)

The statement said the school feeding programme and transport will not be available from April 30-May 23. It said this was because of the large variability in numbers of students going in to schools during this time.

The Prime Minister announced tighter restrictions on Thursday because of increasing numbers of covid19 cases.

The ministry reminded the public that no primary and ECCE students will return to physical classes.

“All classes should be held virtually and students who require packages will continue to collect as per usual, observing safety protocols.

Is said students aon secondary school premises must wear their school uniforms and a mask, except when eating. Schools must have a designated quarantine area for students who show flu-like symptoms.

The statement reiterated safety protocols for schools, including physical distancing, staggered breaks and lunches, no sharing books, snacks or other items, and no congregating on the premises.
