Trinidad and Tobago now over 10,000 cases with 223 new covid19 patients

Two hundred and twenty-three new covid19 cases – from samples taken between April 25 and 27– have pushed the overall total past 10,000.

The country has now recorded 10,170 covid19 cases since the first reported infection in March 2020. From these, 8,351 patients have recovered.

The death toll has also increased to 163 after the Ministry of Health recorded two new deaths in its 4 pm update on Wednesday.

There are now 1,656 active cases.

Twenty-four people are in step-down facilities waiting to be discharged, 150 patients in hospital, and 1,259 in home isolation. The ministry also reported that 199 people are still in state quarantine.

Since the country launched its vaccination programme on April 6, a total of 42,082 people received their first dose of the AstraZeneca shot.

A total of 129,781 samples have been sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency, the Tobago Regional Health Authority, UWI, and other local testing sites.
