The 26-year-old man held in connection with raping and sodomising an 85-year-old woman is expected to be put on an identification parade on Wednesday.

If he is identified, Marabella police will formally charge him for the sexual offences.

So far, he is not known to be a suspect in any unsolved crimes in the Southern Division.

A Marabella resident, he has a conviction for a robbery for which he served two years in jail.

Police said at about 3 am on Saturday, the victim was awakened by the sounds of someone ransacking her home.

She then saw the unknown man in her bedroom. He raped and buggered her before jumping over the fence and running off.

The victim ran into the street and alerted neighbours. She was treated and discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital.

Marabella police arrested the suspect on Monday on the roadside in Marabella after a tip-off.

PC Matloo is leading investigations.
