NATIONAL Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds on Wednesday dismissed what he said were rumours on social media that he is covid19-positive.

In a post on his Facebook page, Hinds declared, "Thanking my God for great health, I have just been told that the muscular and well-oiled rumour-mill of our land has it on social media, that I am covid-positive."

But, he said, "Let me declare loudly that I am fit and well. I have neither flu nor flu-like symptoms. I am as strong as the Lion of Judah."

Hinds said he received his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine last Saturday (April 24) and has experienced no side effects.

"I wear my mask. I sanitise regularly and generally follow the guidance of the experts. It has so far worked for me."

But he added, "I am aware that like every other mortal, I am susceptible, but so far, that virus has stayed far from me." Hinds said he is in office and doing his ministerial work.

"I commiserate with those who are affected and I resolve to work harder to protect all of us."

In a tweet on April 24, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said he too had had his first dose of the vaccine.

"I got vaccinated today at the Queen's Park Savannah. The procedure was smooth and simple and the staff from the Ministry of Health were so professional and pleasant. I recommend this to everyone. I trust the process."
