The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has confirmed in a press release that a staff member at its Port of Spain office was identified on Wednesday as having the covid19 virus.

To safeguard all staff and visitors to this office, CARPHA said the necessary measures of isolation of the patient, sanitising workspaces, and sampling, testing and quarantining contacts had been done.

It said Chief Medical Officer Dr Parasram was immediately informed and updated on the measures taken, for forward action on contact with the positive case by the Ministry of Health.

The patient is receiving appropriate care.

Since all measures are in place and being followed according to the CARPHA Workplace Protocol for covid19, the agency said it was confident that this event will not affect the operations or services it provides.

In addition to the workplace protocol, Health Ministry guidelines are being strictly applied, it said.

The agency added that it remains committed and available to serve the public health needs of all its member states and provide support in response to the pandemic.
