Chairman of the Port Authority of TT (PATT) retired Col Lyle Alexander says the recent seizures of guns and ammunition less than a week apart are something that should be of concern to all citizens.

He called on the various stakeholders in the importation of goods to work with the authorities to clamp down on the illegal arms trade.

Speaking with Newsday on Tuesday, Alexander said his organisation would continue to do its part to mitigate risk and but noted the fight against the importation of drugs and guns was a shared responsibility.

"I don't know if additional security measures is what we're looking at in the ports. The port just transports the cargo, and they do their fair share of surveillance.

"But we all have to work together to prevent these things from coming in. We all as citizens have to be concerned. All of the stakeholders involved in the importation of goods must continue to take the necessary steps to mitigate risk."
